Chapter 76: Goals (part 2)

I had a feeling something was about to happen, so I grabbed a plate and walked over to the two of them.

Their eyes widened, as if silently asking why I was here.

“Why are you here?”

“You… Didn’t you go to Senior Aire?”

“I did.”

“… Did something happen?”

“Well, I’m addicted.”

“What!?”

Stella was horrified at the word “addicted” and slammed her desk. It was a good thing no one else was around since class was about to start. If it had been any other time, all eyes would have been on us.

“What are you doing!?”

“You’re addicted! Are you okay!? That idiot Aire—!”

“… I am joking?”

“… Joking?”

Stella, who had been worked up, froze at my words. She stared blankly for a moment before letting out a sigh of relief and sinking back into her seat. Crossing her arms and legs, she shot me a sharp glare.

“… How do you even think of making a joke like that?”

“Well—because it’s true?”

“Are you joking again?”

“I’m addicted to Senior Aire’s cuteness.”

“… What kind of joke is that?”

I repeated the playful words I’d heard from Aire, but Stella, failing to understand, tilted her head as if I were speaking nonsense.

I laughed out loud, trying to defuse the situation. Meanwhile, Noah, who understood the hidden meaning, sighed.

“Ah—so that’s it? Ian, you’re addicted! To my cuteness!”

“Is that supposed to be trendy?”

“Yes! It’s from “Introduction to Relationship for Young Ladies!” Academy bestseller!”

“You actually bought that?”

“I heard reading books helps with culture, hehe.”

Noah scratched the back of her head sheepishly. Books in this world were expensive, and for a moment, I wondered how she managed to buy them. Then I remembered—she had plenty of money now.

‘Right. She got a reward from the Academy.’

Hadn’t she even shared some of it with me? That had only been a few months ago, but it already felt like a distant memory.

Hearing Noah’s words, Stella curiously leaned closer and started whispering with her. The two exchanged a few words before nodding in agreement. Then, after shaking hands, they both turned to look at me.

“So, what did you do at Senior Aire’s house?”

“I ate.”

“… You ate and then came here to eat again?”

“Oh, this?”

I glanced down at the half-eaten meal in front of me. I could probably finish it, but if I wanted more, it was already too late to order again.

“I’m just hungry.”

“What kind of disease do you have?”

“I don’t know.”

Honestly, I had no idea either. In the game, the player character was never shown eating, so there was no reference for this.

I was the only one with more than three summons, so I had to ask someone for advice.

‘This never happened with just Theresia.’

Was there a difference between having two summons and three? After thinking for a while, I realized one major difference.

‘… Hey, Empress.’

[Yes? Summoner?]

‘You guys… don’t feel hunger, right?’

[Of course not. We’re trapped in this stuffy pattern, after all.]

‘So, you’re not even using any energy?’

Humans spend 20% of their daily energy just on thinking. And my summons were always thinking without any form of sustenance.

Where was that energy coming from?

‘It’s not like energy just appears out of nowhere.’

The most logical explanation was that they were taking energy from me. My body was demanding more food to replenish it.

But since I couldn’t exactly order my summons to stop thinking, I would probably have to keep eating like this from now on.

Now that I had a somewhat plausible explanation for my insane hunger, I pushed aside my unnecessary thoughts and recalled my conversation with Aire.

“Senior Aire agreed to provide me with various forms of support.”

“… support?”

“Exactly that—support.”

Since I planned to maintain my relationship with her while receiving assistance, it could technically be called an “supportive relationship.”

Of course, it wasn’t anything improper.

Stella, however, seemed displeased at the idea of me receiving support from someone outside her own family.

“Don’t worry—I will be receiving yours too.”

“What are you talking about? Are you planning to completely align yourself with the Elnes family—?”

“Not at all. What, were you planning to have me all to yourself?”

I smiled at Stella, who looked flustered by my words.

This was why being born a noble was troublesome. They always tried to monopolize people whenever they had the chance. She probably didn’t even realize it herself.

“Come to think of it, I haven’t told you guys yet.”

Since I had spoken to Aire about it, I needed to tell them too.

“About my goal.”

“… Goal?”

“Now that you mention it, Ian, I’ve never heard what you actually want to do.”

My dream, my goal. That was—to return to Earth in perfect health.

And in order to achieve that—

“I need to defeat the Demon King.”

It was something I could never accomplish alone.

Even in the game, a skilled player with millions invested in their character could only achieve it with the help of the Four Great Families and other summoners.

So—

“We need to work together.”
