Chapter 88: The Immortal Island of No Return

The Northern Region was in complete turmoil. Everyone was searching for Tian Fan’s whereabouts. Some powerful rogue cultivators had set their sights on him again—not just for the generous rewards offered for his life, but also because of the ancient divine script he possessed. That script alone was a priceless treasure. If someone could obtain it, they would undoubtedly reign supreme over the land and look down upon all others.

“I say, little sister, do you really want to go?”

All along the journey, Shangguan Jingyi kept chattering non-stop, repeating the same question over and over. Not only was Zi Ying irritated, but even Tian Fan and Shangguan Yunfeng were getting annoyed. They shot him a glare, making him jump in fright.

“Huh? What an adorable little cat!”

Suddenly, Shangguan Jingyi noticed the little flower-patterned cat on Zi Ying’s shoulder and reached out to pet it. However, the cat was anything but polite—it bit him without hesitation.

“Damn it! Let go, you little cat!”

Tian Fan burst into laughter. Finally, someone else had experienced what he had gone through. The smug little tiger had bitten him before, and now that someone else had suffered the same fate, he felt an inexplicable sense of balance in his heart.

Before long, after crossing several mountain ranges, the group finally arrived at a harbor.

“What? The Immortal Island of No Return? No way, I’m not going!”

As soon as the boatman learned where they wanted to go, he shook his head like a rattle drum, swearing that he would rather die than set foot in that place.

The surrounding people who overheard their destination all turned pale. Even some powerful rogue cultivators shuddered at the mention of that name.

“Young lady, don’t go there. It’s extremely dangerous!”

An elderly man with a kind demeanor stepped forward to offer a word of warning. He was nearly sixty, with strands of white hair mixed in with his black locks and deep wrinkles lining his forehead—marks left by the passage of time. His cultivation was only at the early stage of Spirit Condensation, meaning he had no ability to resist the erosion of age. Now, he simply managed a small harbor here.

The old man gave off a warm and familiar feeling, like an elder in one’s family.

“Don’t worry, Grandpa. We’ll be fine. Hehe…”

Zi Ying smiled as the sea breeze lifted her smooth, flowing black hair, making it dance in the wind. Her celestial beauty, with a slight flush on her cheeks, left many onlookers swallowing hard. Even Tian Fan found himself momentarily dazed.

“What the hell are you staring at, brat? Move those lecherous eyes away from my sister and stop getting any funny ideas!”

Shangguan Jingyi, thoroughly dissatisfied with Tian Fan, immediately shoved him aside. Hearing his words, Zi Ying’s cheeks turned an even deeper shade of red.

After an hour of negotiation, the kind-hearted old man had no choice but to agree. He originally intended to personally steer the boat, but Zi Ying refused—she didn’t want him to take the risk and follow them on their dangerous journey.

On the vast, azure sea, a few small boats drifted about. Compared to them, Tian Fan and his group were traveling on a relatively large ship, carrying over twenty people.

According to the old man, this sea was often plagued by demons—various marine creatures, including octopuses, jellyfish, and some beings suspected to be remnants of prehistoric civilizations. But who could say for sure?

“Where are they headed?”

“That direction… That’s No Return Island!”

Other boats floating on the sea looked on in shock when they saw the course of Tian Fan’s ship. That place was called ‘No Return’ for a reason—even experts at the Immortal Ascension stage found it nearly impossible to leave alive after stepping onto that land.

After sailing for dozens of kilometers, the sound of crashing waves echoed from the front. Towering white waves surged, and amidst the rolling tides, faint flashes of lightning and flickers of light could be seen.

Boom!

Wave after wave came crashing down, making their ship feel like a mere speck of dust drifting in the wind. Everyone hastily used their divine power to stabilize the vessel.

Ahead, a massive octopus—so large it rivaled a small mountain—was fiercely battling an unusual creature. The beast resembled a turtle, yet its back was covered not with a shell but with countless stone spikes. Its size was just as colossal as the octopus, making for a terrifying sight.

“Creee…”

The octopus let out a furious bellow, opening its massive mouth to spew a cloud of pitch-black ink. The poison immediately knocked out its opponent, sending the turtle-like creature toppling into the sea, raising enormous splashes. Some of the inky water even splattered onto Tian Fan’s ship. This was undoubtedly a terrifying beast king.

“Avoid them.”

Shangguan Yunfeng gave the order. These were clearly two beast kings, their strength unimaginably powerful. It was best not to provoke such beings—especially not in their own domain, the sea.

The octopus’s enormous eyes shifted toward them, flashing with a chilling gleam as it watched their ship sail away.

They spent quite some time altering their course. On this unpredictable sea, they had to be constantly vigilant. Many cultivators had been torn apart and devoured by powerful beast kings in these waters, their blood staining the sky. None of them wished to meet the same fate.

“We’re here!”

Zi Ying exclaimed excitedly. Everyone turned their eyes forward, where a massive island loomed ahead. It was nearly half the size of the entire Northern Region, its forests stretching endlessly. Strange and exotic birds soared through the sky.

Above the island, colorful mist shimmered like an ethereal paradise. The breathtaking sight left them momentarily entranced. It was hard to believe this island was called the ‘Island of No Return.’ From the surface, it looked utterly peaceful.

According to legend, this island held the secrets to immortality and artifacts connected to the ancient immortal realm. Many Immortal Ascension experts had ventured there, hoping to uncover even the slightest clue, yet they all returned empty-handed—or never returned at all.

When word of this spread, many refused to believe it, dismissing it as baseless rumors. After all, Immortal Ascension experts were not merely ‘powerful’—they had already grasped the power of certain laws, making them nearly invincible. Under normal circumstances, they could live for over ten thousand years.

Yet, time and time again, waves of experts went to investigate. There was even an incident where an entire sacred martial sect mobilized all its forces to enter the island, seeking the truth about immortality. But in the end, none of them survived. From that moment on, the island earned its ominous name—No Return.

“Little sister, do you really want to go?”

As they approached, Shangguan Jingyi once again voiced his concern. Truthfully, he was deeply worried. Though the island looked peaceful, even the scattered records left behind in ancient texts were enough to make later generations shudder.

“Why wouldn’t I? I have to go—there’s no turning back now!”

They had come this far. With Zi Ying’s personality, there was no way she would back down. No matter what, she had to step onto the island and see it for herself.

Their grand ship continued forward, drawing closer to the island. Suddenly, the entire sea began to tremble violently, as if something immense was about to emerge from beneath the surface. A towering column of water shot into the sky.

Boom!

A massive tentacle swept across the air and smashed down, instantly splitting the large ship apart.

Boom!

A black-clad man failed to dodge in time and was sent flying, landing at Zi Ying’s feet. He was seriously injured and struggled to stand on the surface of the sea.

Although most people here could not fly and had not reached the Cloud Heaven Realm, they could still stand on the water using special spells.

“Are you okay?” Zi Ying lowered her head, crouching down to check on the black-clad man.

“I’m fine. Thank you for your concern, Miss,” the man said, a little touched.

“Mm, as long as you’re okay. Let me heal you.”

A brilliant divine light emerged from Zi Ying’s hand and entered the man’s body. His pale face instantly regained color, and his injuries healed on the spot. He was utterly shocked—if he had treated himself, it would have taken at least a month to fully recover.

“Xiao Tiantian, how do you think it followed us?”

Zi Ying asked curiously as she looked at the massive octopus in front, its thick limbs swaying.

“Uh… I don’t know,” Tian Fan answered honestly.

“Then go ask it what it wants. Why did it destroy our ship and block our path?” Zi Ying said.

Tian Fan: “…”

Boom!

Another massive wave surged forward. Tian Fan immediately stepped in front of Zi Ying and pushed the incoming water away. Then, he suddenly realized—damn it, she was a master of the Primordial Unity Realm! Since when did she need his protection?

“Stupid octopus! What do you want? Believe it or not, I’ll turn you into stew!”

Shangguan Jingyi shouted.

“Cree, Crrrreee…”

At the mention of “stew,” Xiao Hua, became extremely sensitive and immediately roared at Shangguan Jingyi.

“Hey, little kitty, I was talking about it, not you! Why are you growling? Also, cats don’t sound like that. Are you a mutated breed? Wahaha! As expected of my sister, she has such great taste…”

Everyone rolled their eyes at him. How did this guy’s eyes even work? The Color Tiger, Little Flower, was so enraged that its fur stood on end. With a furious roar, it lunged forward and bit Shangguan Jingyi’s leg.

“Damn it! Let go, you little cat!”

If there was anyone enjoying the show the most, it was undoubtedly Tian Fan.

Boom!

The octopus’s tentacle swung forward again. Over a dozen black-clad figures rushed to block it, but they were instantly repelled, creating another massive wave on the sea.

“Step back,” Shangguan Yunfeng commanded.

In an instant, he vanished from his spot and reappeared above the octopus’s massive head, throwing a powerful punch.

“Creee…!”

The octopus roared in fury. A tiny human had actually managed to wound it! Enraged, it swung its enormous limbs at Shangguan Yunfeng while spewing out a jet of pitch-black ink. However, this was no ordinary ink—it was highly toxic. Even a Cloud Heaven Realm expert would be poisoned if they inhaled it.

Boom!

Shangguan Yunfeng extended a massive palm, seizing the attacking tentacle and yanking it hard, causing water to splash everywhere. The octopus screamed in agony. At the same time, Shangguan Yunfeng released a radiant divine light, completely neutralizing the poisonous ink before a single drop could fall.

“So strong…”

Tian Fan was shocked. Shangguan Yunfeng’s strength far exceeded his expectations. He was definitely much stronger than an ordinary peak Cloud Heaven Realm expert.

A dazzling golden light radiated from Shangguan Yunfeng’s body. His expression remained calm, but waves of overwhelming power rippled outward. The octopus’s face was filled with fear. It finally realized it had provoked the wrong person. The space around it was completely sealed off—it couldn’t even escape.

As a golden sword light shot toward its head, spelling certain death, a purple figure suddenly appeared before it and shattered the incoming sword light with a single palm strike.

“Brother Yunfeng, let it go. We didn’t suffer any losses,” Zi Ying said.

She had blocked Shangguan Yunfeng’s lethal strike, leaving him somewhat helpless. This little sister of his was perfect in every way—except she was too kind, so kind it made his heart ache.

“Little octopus, you can go now. But don’t do bad things again, okay?”

The octopus looked at the young woman before it in astonishment. It never expected a human to spare its life. Letting out a few gurgling sounds at Zi Ying, its massive body slowly sank into the sea.

“Alright, let’s go ashore.”

Zi Ying smiled and ran ahead, her black silk-like hair dancing in the wind. She truly looked like a spirit wandering the mortal world.

Watching her back, Tian Fan was momentarily dazed before smiling. She was adorable and incredibly kind. He thought that, perhaps, she had never even stepped on an ant in her entire life.

As they stepped onto the island, they all felt a strange power lingering in the air. The entire island was shrouded in a dense, white mist, obscuring their vision. Even with their cultivation levels, they struggled to see ahead, filling them with awe. This was truly one of the three great forbidden zones of the Divine Martial Continent.

But the most shocked person was Tian Fan.

The moment he set foot on the island, a mysterious force within his body began to stir restlessly—

It was the power of the Ancient Divine Script…
