On the Island of No Return, ancient trees stretched their gnarled branches in all directions like coiling dragons. Each towering tree was as massive as a small mountain, piercing the sky. Thick, water-barrel-sized vines snaked around the terrain like giant pythons, their sheer strength capable of entangling entire mountain peaks.
To the unknowing, those unfamiliar with ancient records and legends, this place would seem like a flourishing paradise, teeming with life. However, anyone who had read the notes left behind by their predecessors would immediately become vigilant. Observant individuals would notice something unsettling—after stepping onto the island, not a single beast’s roar or bird’s song could be heard. This was highly unusual. When they were still out at sea, they had seen various birds circling above the primeval forest, yet upon reaching the island, an eerie silence reigned.
A thick white mist covered the island. Among the group of over twenty people, even the weakest had reached the peak of the Spirit Condensation Realm, yet none could see beyond a hundred meters. Even when Zi Ying activated her Heavenly Eye Ability, she could only perceive things within that range with greater clarity. A mysterious force was suppressing everyone’s cultivation.
“Everyone, be extremely careful.”
They divided their group accordingly, leaving those below the Cloud Heaven Realm outside the island, fearing that they wouldn’t be able to protect them if danger arose.
“Legend has it that deep within this forbidden zone lies a sacred mountain, filled with rare treasures and spiritual fruits. Wahaha, I must get my hands on at least one!”
Zi Ying’s eyes sparkled like a treasure-obsessed child.
Ancient trees covered the entire island, their canopies nearly piercing the clouds. Their massive trunks were so thick that even several people together couldn’t wrap their arms around them.
The four of them ventured deeper into the island. However, after traveling less than half a mile, they suddenly heard the sounds of battle ahead. It seemed like someone was fighting! The discovery shocked them. Could there actually be other people on this island?
When they finally arrived at the source of the commotion, the scene before them left them utterly stunned, their jaws nearly dropping to the ground.
A young man in purple robes was locked in combat with a blazing fire phoenix. Though the creature merely resembled a phoenix, its sheer power was undeniable. Its entire body was engulfed in flames, distorting the surrounding space with scorching heat.
The young man had long black hair cascading down his back like a waterfall. He stood tall and imposing, exuding an aura of absolute dominance as if he alone reigned supreme over the world. Every move he made was effortless and unrestrained, yet carried an indescribable profundity, as if embodying the very principles of heaven and earth. The four onlookers were utterly entranced by the sight.
The battle between man and beast was nothing short of apocalyptic. The black-haired youth shattered mountains with a single strike and split the earth with a mere step. Meanwhile, the fire phoenix barely flapped its wings, yet each motion unleashed a devastating storm of energy. The surrounding space cracked under the sheer force of their clash, revealing chaotic torrents of time and space. However, despite the overwhelming destruction, the moment any shockwaves approached the spectators, they mysteriously vanished into nothingness.
“So powerful!”
Zi Ying’s eyes gleamed with admiration as she watched the battle unfold, completely captivated.
“Grraaah—!”
The fire phoenix screeched and spewed a torrent of flames, so intense that it burned through the void itself, setting the very sky ablaze.
Yet the young man merely raised his right hand and pressed forward from a distance. A massive palm imprint materialized in the air, instantly extinguishing the sea of flames. However, a few stray embers broke past his suppression and shot toward Tian Fan.
“Oh my god!”
Tian Fan’s hair stood on end. Even though Zi Ying exerted her full strength, she was unable to stop the approaching flames. Growing desperate, she launched multiple attacks in succession, yet none could hinder the fire. It was as if the flames could pierce through anything, utterly impervious to her divine power.
The four of them attacked together, but even their combined efforts proved futile. They could only watch helplessly as the flames hurtled toward Tian Fan. Zi Ying was on the verge of tears in frustration.
Boom!
However, something bizarre happened. The flames passed straight through Tian Fan’s body without harming him, instead slamming into the distant ground and leaving behind a massive, deep crater.
Everything happened in a split second, faster than the blink of an eye. Cold sweat trickled down Tian Fan’s back.
“What… was that?”
Zi Ying furrowed her brows in confusion, then did something that nearly drove the Shangguan brothers and Tian Fan insane. The little girl picked up a small stone from the ground and forcefully threw it at the Fire Phoenix in the sky.
Oh my god, that was a powerful divine beast! Conservatively speaking, it was at least at the Return to Immortality stage. If they angered it, even ten more lives wouldn’t be enough to survive!
However, to their surprise, the hard stone passed right through the Fire Phoenix’s body and pierced a towering ancient tree in the distance, leaving a small hole as it shot through.
“This…”
The four of them were taken aback by the scene, but then they suddenly realized something—the space before them wasn’t real. It was most likely a battle that had taken place in the past. For some special reason, they were able to witness this event unfold before them.
Boom!
For the first time, the young man revealed an overwhelmingly powerful battle intent. His entire being radiated sharpness, and an immense aura erupted from him. A violent storm of energy spread outward with him at the center, raging in all directions. The void rumbled as if it couldn’t withstand his might. The Fire Phoenix on the opposite side seemed to sense danger as well. Its fiery-red body tensed, fully on guard.
“Ah!”
The young man let out a deafening roar that shook the heavens, his imposing presence dominating the world. His towering figure radiated boundless divine light. He threw a punch toward the Fire Phoenix ahead, his fist crackling with massive golden lightning bolts, as if connected to the thunder in the sky. His punch carried unfathomable power, shattering the firmament and piercing through the void.
Bang!
The Fire Phoenix, enveloped in blazing flames, struggled to resist with all its might. However, it was ultimately struck by the young man’s punch and sent flying a thousand feet away. Scarlet blood spilled from its body as it plummeted.
Yet, with just a slight flap of its wings, the Fire Phoenix reappeared before the young man. It glared at him viciously and screeched continuously, as if saying something. The young man, in turn, spoke to it repeatedly, seemingly apologizing.
The Fire Phoenix appeared to calm down a little. It gently opened its beak, and a fiery-red orb flew out from its body. The orb was crystal clear, and the moment it emerged, the spiritual energy within a hundred-mile radius frantically surged toward it, making the entire orb shine with radiant brilliance.
When the young man saw the orb, he could no longer remain composed. His towering figure actually began to tremble slightly. He carefully took the pearl-sized orb into his hands and gingerly stored it away as if it were the most precious thing in the world to him.
He then bowed deeply to the Fire Phoenix, as if expressing his gratitude.
“Grrah…”
The Fire Phoenix let out an indignant cry, then gave the young man one last glare before transforming into a streak of fire and soaring toward the ends of the sky. In the blink of an eye, it had vanished without a trace.
The young man turned to leave but suddenly looked back—his gaze landed on Tian Fan and the others. This was the first time they were facing him directly. They held their breath. This was a chaotic space-time… Could he actually see them?! That was far too terrifying!
To their shock, none of them could see his face clearly. A hazy radiance veiled his features.
His gaze lingered on the four of them, his body trembling slightly. He took a small step forward but ultimately stopped. In the end, he cast them one last deep look before his figure disappeared from sight.
“That’s so strange… Why does he feel so familiar?” Tian Fan murmured.
“That’s so strange… Why did my heart ache just now?” Zi Ying pouted, her face full of confusion.
