Chapter 95: Enraged (part 2)

I met up with Shael and Duke Jespen again.

Duke Jespen excused himself to give me and Shael time together.

Even though not much time had passed since I had been separated from Shael, the corners of my mouth went up in delight as soon as I saw her.

Shael, on the other hand, showed an expression exactly the opposite of mine. She seemed to be rather annoyed.

“Did something happen?”

“Yes. Something very serious happened.”

It shouldn’t have been anything serious, since Duke Jespen must have been by Shael’s side during the time I wasn’t here.

Rather, she must be mad at me for going somewhere alone.

“We’d better leave soon. Is there a place you want to go?”

I received no answer. When I checked Shael’s gaze, I found her looking at the bag I was holding in my hand. The bag contained items from the black market. I couldn’t put them in the magic pouch because it was already filled to the brim with desserts.

“What are those things?”

“I happened to buy them along the way.”

“With your money?”

My conscience was pricked, but I struggled to nod my head. That woman said she would give them to me if I got down on my knees, so it’s not like I stole them.

Actually, I felt a bit sorry, but I couldn’t help it. I didn’t know what would happen if I couldn’t buy the items and my plans went awry. So I just asked for forgiveness in my heart.

“Haahhhm…”

Shael let out a sigh.

Did she think I spent too much?

However, I was not yet done with the spending. There were still things I had to buy. One of them was a protective magic tool that could be purchased in the imperial palace.

It cost a whopping 5 million gold!

Honestly, I had almost given up on getting the item due to its price, but it wasn’t impossible now that I had saved so much money. Still, I wish I could gather a little more money.

With such thoughts, I pointed my gaze at Shael.

‘Would she lend me some money?’

As I directed my earnest eyes at Shael, she seemed to have noticed my gaze, and pulled something out of her pocket.

“Look at this.”

“Is this…a photo?”

It was a picture of a woman.

“Ah, this person…”

“Looks like she’s someone you know?”

There was no way I didn’t know. The photo Shael pulled out contained the woman I had seen at the gambling house a while ago. She was the money bag who gave me an enormous amount of money and as well as the items.

“I know her.”

“What is your relationship?”

Shael suddenly took out a photo of that woman and was now asking about our relationship. It was necessary to find out the reason why she was asking such a question, since she had no friends and no social skills. So there was no chance that she was friends with the woman in the picture.

‘Did they get into a fight while I wasn’t there?’

Anyway, it was obvious that Shael and the woman in the picture were on bad terms. It was a fact that could be understood just by looking at Shael’s crumpled face.

“No, first of all, you should tell me what kind of woman this woman is rather than your relationship.”

Shael asked with a cold voice.

I realized that I had to give a well thought out answer.  At the same time, this was also an opportunity!

An opportunity to score points for Shael by slandering the woman in the picture. In the first place, the woman was rude and ruthless, so I had no reason to feel guilty.

After thinking for a while, I came up with a response Shael would like the most.

“She is a money bag.”

“Money…bag?”

“She is a rude woman with a bad personality.”

“…”

Shael stared at me with a livid face, and the corners of her mouth must be twitching because she was trying to hold herself back from smiling.

Convinced of the fact, I continued to slander the woman to my heart’s content.

“What about her personality?”

“Just being around made me feel annoyed. It was to the point that it was fortunate I hadn’t drawn my sword.”

Actually, it wasn’t that bad, but I had to say that in order to make Shael feel better.

Shael’s face stiffened, and her lips began to twitch as if she was holding back her smile.

‘Is this enough?’

No…it wasn’t!

So I decided to curse that poor money bag even more for the sake of lifting Shael’s mood.

“She even looked at me with a shady gaze.”

“Shady…” Shael muttered under her breath.

“It was very creepy. It’s what social churches call gaze molestation. I suffered from that.”

“Gaze molestation…”

“My heart still trembles…I guess I’ll have to spend my money and calm my heart.”

Shael turned her head, trying to hide her expression. It was clear that she was trying hard to not lift the corners of her mouth.

In other words, Shael’s mood was at its peak because I had slandered the woman in the picture. Even if that wasn’t the case, she must feel some resentment towards that woman, and it was obvious that she had sympathy for me.

At this rate, wouldn’t I be able to borrow enough money from Shael so that would be able to buy that expensive protective magic tool?

‘No, I’m sure it’s possible!’

Shael was the daughter of the wealthy Azbel family, and she had accumulated a lot of money due to the fact that she didn’t travel outside too much since she was young.

“By the way. I have something I want to buy, so could you lend me some money?”

Alas…I had made a mistake. It would have been better to just ask for the money than to borrow it.

Shael wouldn’t be spending that money anyway, and even if she did, it was obvious that she would spend it to buy strange things.

What’s more, the Baslett family was also very poor, so I didn’t even know how I would be able to return the money I would be borrowing from her.

And so, I tried to make eye contact with Shael with pitiful eyes and tried to entice her to just give it to me as a kind of allowance.

“Shael?”

Contrary to my expectations, I felt a stare cold enough to freeze my heart.

In the end, all of the money I had taken from the money bag was confiscated by Shael.
