Chapter 25: Childhood Friend (part 2)

But now, she had long hair that cascaded down her back.

This implied that we hadn’t seen each other for several years, and that amount of time was enough to make most memories fade away.

“Why did you decide to come here only now?”

“I, too, have been occupied. This is my first appointment this year. But, things should be a bit more settled now. So let’s have something to eat, whether it’s porridge or rice.”

Her tone and voice carried no falsehood. There was no chance she was feigning ignorance to deceive me. Someone who had been a simple country girl just a few years ago wouldn’t have possessed the acting skills to deceive others in such a short span.

‘The academy is a battleground of the aristocrats, so I’m still unsure…’

Firstly, was there any immediate benefit she could gain by deceiving me?

No matter how much I contemplated, there was nothing. Even if she had deceived me, I deemed it acceptable to let it slide.

Carefully, I spoke, revisiting the past Ian Clark’s memories.

“Indeed. I had completely forgotten about you, sister.”

“Ah…I understand.”

“Even now, I’m still in doubt whether you are truly my Sister Clara.”

“Why…?”

“The sister I remember always approached me with a smile and spoke to me first, right?”

Despite being the daughter of a commoner, she conversed with Ian, the son of a noble family, without hesitation. This body only recalled her as innocent and unpretentious.

Upon saying that, Clara erupted into laughter, as if it was predictably amusing.

“Yes…it is quite unlike me, who was frightened and couldn’t approach you.”

She sighed lightly after saying so. Then as if resolved, she slowly drew nearer to me. Seating herself beside me, she enveloped me in her ample bosom and began to gently stroke my hair.

“It’s been a while, Ian.”

“Uh, yes…”

“I’ve missed you.”

She embraced me even tighter, her arms exuding a strong scent of cow’s milk. It was a heavenly fragrance, yet it felt as if remaining still would really transport me to heaven, so I lightly tapped her forearm and pulled away.

“Ah, I apologize…you liked it before, so I assumed you’d like it now…”

“…is that so?”

Nevertheless, I still found it appealing. I wanted to feel it more

I raised my head, observing her. The age difference between us wasn’t significant, if I compared it to the me from my previous world. Her face was simply stunning, and her bosom ample. Wasn’t she the ideal heroine?

‘…am I considering a relationship?’

For a moment, envisioning a bright future with her, I acknowledged the limitation of my life.

To be precise, this world was doomed. If I failed to stop the Demon King, this world would perish.

And, even if I managed to return to Earth, it would be akin to being a terminally ill patient again.

Whether or not she understood my sentiments, Clara smiled and spoke,

“If you have any concerns in the future, come to me anytime! Oh, should I address you as Clara outside?”

“…alright, Sister Clara.”

“It’s Miss.”

“Miss Clara.”

Clara then offered a soft smile as she bid me farewell.

Upon completing my self-directed training, I returned to the dormitory and lounged about, but in the late afternoon, I encountered an unexpected visitor.

“Ah, it’s Secretary Lianne?”

“Cadet Ian. The principal wishes to see you.”

By this point the principal suddenly summoning me wasn’t that unusual, so I swiftly changed attire and headed to the principal’s office.

Cadets weren’t meant to grow accustomed to the principal’s office or the principal themselves, but for some reason, upon opening the door—the place more familiar than a classroom—the principal, amidst rummaging through documents, warmly greeted me.

“I apologize for the wait…can you spare five minutes?”

“I’ll wait.”

“Thank you, Lianne, please arrange some tea and refreshments.”

Subsequently, after about 10 minutes, savoring the tea and sweets provided by the secretary, the principal, having finished the tasks, settled onto the sofa.

“My apologies for summoning you and keeping you waiting…”

“It’s only natural that the principal’s time is more precious. I understand.”

“Hahaha, I still apologize.”

Swiftly, she sipped the tea brought by the secretary and carefully produced the agenda that summoned me.

“Cadet Ian, do you recall the recent demon attack incident?”

“Yes, certainly.”

Since I was the one who thwarted it, I was well aware. Yet, there had to be a reason she was bringing this up.

“It’s regrettable such an event occurred at the academy…afterwards, we conducted a thorough investigation of the academy.”

“A thorough investigation…is that so?”

“Yes, we combed through the entire academy, looking for any undiscovered secret passages.”

Upon hearing that, I pondered if there were any stories of demon attacks at the academy following this.

I recollected tales of the academy being targeted for destruction by direct assault, but I remembered there no longer being a spy within the tunnels.

“Then, we stumbled upon a massive cavity in the basement of this academy.”

“…in the basement?”

For a moment, I stared at her in bewilderment.

At this stage in the plot, there shouldn’t be anything like that in the basement.

However, the principal bluntly stated, “Yes, an endlessly stretching dungeon underground.”
