Chapter 17: Personality Theory (part 1)

[Noah’s POV]

Noah was basically at deaths door and was hospitalized in a single room.

They had healed all her serious injuries with the power of a healer summon, but human beings were not the kind that could recover from wounds that easily.

Humans were weak creatures. So extra care was necessary to healing the mind compared to broken limbs.

Currently, Noah was living a luxurious life, receiving the highest level of treatment and psychological counseling. It was something she had never received in her life.

In the midst of spending each day like that…

“I am genuinely sorry.”

“Ah, no…! Raise your head, Principal. Oh, I think I’ve experienced this once before.”

The Academy’s principal, Catherine, came to visit Noah and bowed her head again.

Noah tilted her head at the daunting situation, but succeeded in making the Principal rise her head.

“I have no excuses. To let a cadet get hurt twice…I have to take responsibility.”

“Eh, why is that the Principal’s mistake? The Principal didn’t do anything…”

“Yes, I didn’t do anything.”

At Noah’s harsh words, Catherine looked at her with a bitter smile. She was the one who had come up with that strategy, and when the instructors were fighting for their lives with the demons, she was drinking tea with Ian in her office and chatting away.

From the report she had received, a rare noble-class demon had appeared on the other side as well. It was something that only she could deal with.

However, she was drinking tea in the corner of her room, thinking that it would be enough based on the demons that appeared in the past.

“Once again, I’m sorry.”

“I’m really fine…”

“I sincerely apologize for making you go through the same experience twice.”

The situation was serious enough that it couldn’t be glossed over with a simple apology. Catherine was acutely aware of that and had prepared two rewards.

“To compensate—the Academy will pay a hundred million credits in damages.”

“A hundred…a hundred million?”

It was so much money that Noah was left in disbelief. The only thing she knew was that her father earned 1.2 million credits in a year. Thus, she understood that it was an amount an ordinary farmer wouldn’t be able to earn even in their entire lifetime.

“Uh, how can you give me so much money…”

“So much money? You’ll realize later that it’s not a lot of money.”

“Is that so? Do summoners earn that much?”

“Yes.”

Catherine said so and talked about the second reward.

“And…it’s unprecedented, but we’ve decided to open up the Academy’s warehouse.”

“…the warehouse?”

“Actually, it’s a treasure house.”

Saying so, the Principal explained the Academy’s warehouse. It was a place that contained all the heirlooms left by an unknown ancestor, and the items left by dead summoned beasts. Thus the estimated value of the items inside were over tens of trillions.

Hearing that, Noah’s mouth opened wide and she forgot to even close it.

“Ten…tens of trillions…”

“We have decided to reward you with one of them. You can take whatever you want…”

“For me!?”

All she did was protect the instructor from being attacked, but the reward she was getting was way too high.

After being stunned for a good few seconds, Noah started to calm down. No matter how she thought about it, it wasn’t right for her to receive it.

“…Principal.”

“What?”

“Well, there is something I want to ask you…”

[Ian’s POV]

Thud! Thud! Thud!

I woke up to the sound of knocking on the door. I checked the time, and it was still early in the morning.

So early in fact that, even the attendance check reward hadn’t arrived yet.

There was just a hint of red on the horizon.

‘For the sake of god…’

I begrudgingly opened the door, thinking that I would surely punish the person who woke me up. However, the person who had been knocking on the door, ran into the room as soon as the door opened.

“Who is it…eh?”

“Hey, you! What the hell happened!?”

“Ah…it’s Stella. Get out and take off your shoes.”

After making her take off her shoes, I asked, “What do you want?”

“Noah, what happened to her?”

“What do want to know?”

“Why was she suddenly admitted to the hospital, and why is no one allowed to visit her?”

“Isn’t it the right of a patient to not be disturbed?”

When I pointed out a fact that was close to common sense, Stella backed away with a muffled groan. It seemed that she hadn’t even thought about it.

“So? Anything else you want to ask?”

“What happened to Noah?”

“Why are you asking me that?”

“Hmph, you think I’m stupid? Didn’t you summon your summons on campus yesterday? And you even made her search the girl’s dormitory. When I asked the cadets, they said that your summon was looking for Noah. In addition to that, the fact that you didn’t receive any punishment even after summoning a summons on campus is another proof that something serious might have happened. Are you still going to deny it? ”

Well…it seemed that I had no way out of this. I mean, it was unavoidable, considering that I had left a lot of obvious breadcrumbs along the way.

In the first place, there were not many 3-star summons in the academy, and they all had unique appearances, so it wasn’t that difficult to determine the identity of the summoner.

After a light sigh, I decided to tell her the truth.

  1. So MC by his action and overprotectivness had already crippled the game’s MC? She sure is more useless than she appeared in game. Also Stella is still dodging her end of the wager? Was the lunch ome time thing or is a constant feature in MC life now? Also isn’t MC eating too little during academy lunches that he has to eat outside them? The only explanation I see is that the meal times are not in sync with MC body.

    Thanks for chapter
